Meet Mike

Mike was born in Omaha and raised in Fort Calhoun.  He has always been involved in camp as far back as he can remember. When Mike is not at camp he loves to spend time with friends, watch and play a variety sports, and enjoys playing the guitar.

Education and Work Experience

Mike first came to Kitaki with Camp Super Kids (camp for kids with asthma). He was a camper for 4 years and then a junior counselor for 4 years. After that Mike joined summer staff where he was a cabin counselor, East Camp unit director, Teens unit director, and finally Senior Counselor. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 2013 with degrees in communications and political science, and has been with Kitaki since the spring of 2015.

Mike and his wife, Sydney, married in 2014. Sydney teaches English at Lincoln High. He also has a Welsh corgi named Amos who loves to come out and visit camp and keep all the squirrels in line.

Why Kitaki?

Mike loves to watch people grow and learn. Not just the campers, but the staff as well. He truly believes that being involved in such a positive environment like camp can only improve one’s life and make them a better person for it. Kitaki also holds a special place in his heart because it is where he met his wife.
